Deputations
Deputations for Planning Applications
At your local authority, for the most part, it will be a senior planning officer, through delegated powers, who make these important decisions. However, occasionally, applications are called to Planning Committee for determination by elected members, not planning officers. Reasons for this vary: it may be against planning policy, for example. Perhaps it’s a large project. Equally, there could be objections from neighbours. Or, it could be contentious in some way.
Although there are rules and procedures that planning committees follow, planning committees will allow individuals to speak briefly about an item at their meetings. Also, they enable third party representatives to make a deputation on applicants’ behalf.
And that person can be me – Darryl Howells, from DHPC
The Expertise You Need
It sounds obvious, but knowing how planning applications work can strengthen your case. Further, an in-depth grasp of the local authority’s planning policies is essential. There’s more: knowing the appropriate “language”, etiquette and approach is no easy thing. As you can see, it may well be a task best left to the experts.
All things considered, we have the experience, skills and knowledge to represent you fully. Either we can do this either in person, via video, or as a written statement. We’re a planning consultancy business with over 24 years’ in-depth experience. This includes previous senior-level positions in the local authority – with decision-making powers for planning decisions. So, we know how these hard-working people will think.

How it Works
Deputation Requests. We will make a deputation request a certain number of working days before the committee meeting. In addition, we can circulate any supporting material that your case may need.
Time Allocated to Speak. With only a brief time to present your case, we’ll always choose our words carefully. Likewise, with unambiguous clarity. Also, we’ll focus on a robust argument that either supports council policies. Or, that outweighs them.
Is the outcome guaranteed in your favour? Regrettably, no. It’s important to realise that we can’t predict you will always have the result you want. However, you’ll have an experienced planning consultancy on your side. Notably, one who knows what to say, and how to say it.
